Last Week I…

17 Sep

…completed the first seven days of the 5k by 50 challenge.  Cycling a 20k round trip to work every day helped just a little bit with this.

…gave my ears a break by updating the music on my MP3 player.  I have this horrible habit of listening to the same few songs or albums on repeat for months - often until I’m completely sick of them.  After a Summer of little other than David Bowie (much as I love him) and Jessie J (what?) a new playlist was definitely in order.

…made this cake (above) with some blackberries I picked.  Just add coffee and a good book for a perfect Autumnal afternoon.

…finished reading Life After God, which I wrote about the other day.  Whenever I’m going through a period of not reading much I find that all it takes is one sublimely affecting book to pull me right back on in.  This was that book for me this time around.

…went ceilidh dancing when I really, really didn’t feel like celidh dancing.  Came out of ceilidh dancing feeling like I was really, really glad I’d gone ceilidh dancing.  There’s a lesson in there somewhere I think.

…realised that there are about five films out at the cinema that I really want to see this season, and resolved to make an effort to tick them all off.

…made some wholesome Autumnal foods to try and pep myself up after I came down with a really horrible cold.  Macaroni and cheese (I challenge anyone not to feel better about life after macaroni and cheese, whatever your ailments), spicy sausage stew and crispy, cheesey lentil bake.  I say carbohydrates, you say…coma?!

…spent a quiet weekend by the seaside doing not much other than walking along the beach, foraging for berries and crocheting.  After a week of feeling groggy and rubbish it was just what I needed.

This week I’m going to a pub quiz, climbing another Munro and setting the wagons to roll on my list for AutumnWhat are you up to?
