Last Week I…

14 Aug

…Delighted in the quiet normality of a post-holiday working week.  I went to yoga, I did some food shopping, I had dinners with friends, I caught up on laundry.  It’s amazing how nice a quiet-ish week can be.

…Finished listening to Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier on audiobook.  I probably should have read it by now given that a) it’s a classic and b) my name is Rebecca (that’s a reason!), but I had never got round to it.  It’s good though, and well worth 15 hours’ listening time.  Does anyone else listen to audiobooks?  I’m totally falling in love with them!  You can read AND do other stuff at the same time!  Productive!

…Got up early every morning and made time for a cup of tea and a green smoothie.

…Spent the weekend under canvas on the West coast (the view from our tent was amazing at sunset).  We decorated our homestead with Chinese lanterns, bunting and flowers and we drank fizzy wine and played board games by torchlight underneath the stars.  In case there’s a danger that that sounds too idyllic I also got eaten alive by midges and didn’t shower for two days.

…Caught the ferry to the Isle of Arran and hired a bike to explore.  There’s me above with some highland cows we came across on our travels.  We also had a picnic on the beach consisting of pot noodles (heated up via camping stove), out of date mini doughnuts and those 10p crisps that now cost 15p.  Nutritious!

…Wondered what on earth I’m going to do now that the Olympics are finished.

This week I’m going to a couple of Fringe shows, a barbecue and a book club meeting.  I’m also going to try and tick some more things off of my Summer Bucket List (I’m currently on 14/25 activities accomplished!).

I’m actually named after the book “Emma” by Jane Austen, and my other sisters (Catriona and Rebecca) are also named after books (my parents are a little strange).  Still I have very much enjoyed reading all three books so I guess that’s not a bad thing!

I love the sound of you camping, it sounds lovely!

I really think quiet, routine weeks are much underrated.  I always feel a sense of calm at the end of the day and enjoy the illusion of being in control.

I was named after the Grand Duchess Anastasia (after an enthusiastic viewing of the Ingrid Bergman film by my Mum) and feel the need to read all kinds of things vaguely related to the fate of the Romanov family.
