The Summer Bucket List – an update

1 Aug

So with a July full of birthdays, weddings, visitors and holidays I had worried there wouldn’t be time for ticking things off of the Bucket List.  I have, however, managed to squeeze in four more activities.  Here’s a progress report for the start of August…

Make a piece of clothing

I made “his ‘n’ hers” aprons as a wedding gift for two friends who got married last month (and conveniently have no suitable photographs to show you) and I also made this head piece for a costume I wore to a fancy dress party last weekend (I went as Olympia – there was method in the floral madness).  I found the fake flowers in a cute little shop in Amsterdam, and then wound them around a wire frame to make a crown.  That totally counts as clothing, right?

Climb a Munro

In case anyone reading doesn’t know, “Munro” is the name given to a Scottish mountain that stands 3000 feet or more above sea level, the highest of them all being Ben Nevis.  Well I didn’t climb the highest, but I did manage to scoot up and down Carn na Caim and A’Bhuidheanach Bheag (there’s a prize waiting for anyone who can tell me how to pronounce that).  This is the fairly unexciting – it was much prettier in reality – summit of the first.  By my calculations that only leaves me with 281 to bag.  Uh, easy?

Have a picnic

There were no boiled eggs, but there were olives, cherries and a Fleetwood Mac album on the airwaves.  That totally counts as a “proper” picnic in my opinion (I think the propriety of the picnic is actually determined by whether or not you pour your drink out into a cup, as opposed to swigging it from the bottle, although olives and cherries obviously help).  This was one of my happiest (and laziest) afternoons in Amsterdam last week.

Cycle to the Falkirk Wheel and back – a marginal fail

I had planned to do this at the beginning of last month with my brother, but the weather was so awful that weekend that we were forced from our saddles and into the nearest cinema for shelter.  We did manage to cycle from Edinburgh to Ratho and back during a break in the clouds on the Sunday, however, so I guess that counts for something.  Maybe?!

So at the beginning of August, the list looks something like this:

  • Go on a road trip
  • Bake a rainbow cake
  • Climb a Munro
  • Watch Season 1 of The Wire
  • Pick an official “Summer 2012″ song and play it until my neighbours threaten to call the police
  • Go camping
  • Go on a “proper” picnic (with hard boiled eggs AND cutlery!)
  • Read Sunset Song
  • Become a vegetarian for two weeks
  • Have a barbecue
  • Go to the theatre
  • Have a photo I took made into a canvas
  • Go kayaking
  • Cycle from Edinburgh to the Falkirk Wheel and back – a marginal fail
  • Make margaritas
  • Watch The Bucket List
  • Go strawberry picking and make jam with the proceeds
  • Make a Kiva loan
  • Go to a gig by a band I’ve never heard before
  • Take a dance class
  • Make a piece of clothing
  • Attend an event at the Edinburgh Film Festival
  • Get a pedicure
  • Make bunting
  • Go to the zoo

This week I’m staying with a friend in London and have plans to go to and see this at the theatre which I’m more than just a little excited about.  I also have some half-finished bunting lying at home which I will hopefully get round to hanging on Sunday.  As for the rest of the Bucket List, well, August is looking like a rather busy month!

How’s your Summer coming along?

Yay good progress!  Mine is going rather poorly, work and faffing on the internet are such distractions… ;)

Thank you!  I was thinking progress was slow, but you’ve cheered me up!  Good luck with the rest of yours :) x
