Lyrics to Live By: Society, Eddie Vedder

28 Feb

Well it’s a mystery to me
We have a greed with which we have agreed
And you think you have to want more than you need
Until you have it all you won’t be free

Society, you’re a crazy breed
Hope you’re not lonely without me…

When you want more than you have
You think you need…
And when you think more than you want
Your thoughts begin to bleed
I think I need to find a bigger place
Because when you have more than you think
You need more space

Society, you’re a crazy breed
Hope you’re not lonely without me…
Society, crazy indeed
Hope you’re not lonely without me…

Lyrics to ‘Society’ by Eddie Vedder, written for Into the Wild (2007).

My boyfriend reads blogs. Obsessively. I never really understood why until he encouraged me to try it for myself… Now I’m a faithful follower of A Domino Effect! You probably hear it a lot, but I can’t quite believe how often you manage to articulate exactly how I think and that despite living on the other side of the world we have a lot in common (I too hate driving, confrontation, and worry about social inequality and the state of our environment; but also love tea, anything vintage, cooking, travelling, thriftiness, and Arcade Fire). Now you have also quoted my all-time favourite song ‘Society’. I felt I needed to comment and connect – and thank you. You’re awesome and I love your blog. If you weren’t a 24hour+ plane ride away it would be great to meet you. Instead I will continue to enjoy your posts over my cup of tea :-)

Wow, what a lovely comment that was to read!  And heck, are we kindred spirits?  ’Society’ is definitely up there among my favourite songs, and there are heaps of Arcade Fire ones in there too…Rebellion, Sprawl II, Keep the Car Running etc…

I’m so glad you’ve found your way to A Domino Effect and are enjoying my ramblings – meeting amazing like-minded people is definitely the best thing about blogging :)
